RTAA Presents | Disney’s Tarzan
Based on Disney's epic animated musical adventure and Edgar Rice Burrough's Tarzan of the Apes, Tarzan features heart-pumping music by rock legend, Phil Collins, and a book by Tony Award-winning playwright, David Henry Hwang. High-flying excitement and hits, like the Academy Award winning "You'll Be in My Heart," as well as "Son of Man" and "Two Worlds," make Tarzan an unforgettable theatrical experience.
Washed up on the shores of West Africa, an infant boy is taken in and raised by gorillas who name him Tarzan. Apart from striving for acceptance from his ape father, Tarzan's life is mostly monkey business until a human expedition treks into his tribe's territory, and he encounters creatures like himself for the first time. Tarzan struggles to navigate a jungle, thick with emotion, as he discovers his animal upbringing clashing with his human instincts.

RTAA Presents | Freckleface Strawberry
Freckleface Strawberry The Musical, based on the beloved New York Times best-selling book by celebrated actress, Julianne Moore, is a fun and touching family musical. Specifically created to perform for young audiences, families can step inside of the book's pages with Freckleface and friends as they learn to "love the skin they're in."
Freckleface Strawberry will do anything to get rid of her freckles – from scrubbing them with soap to caking on makeup... and even wearing a ski mask to school! Will her schoolmates realize that it's her under the mask? Will Freckleface be brave enough to finally face her complexion in the mirror? With the help of her loveable schoolmates, including an amazingly talented ballerina, a cutie jock, a charming ditz and a totally kooky teacher, Freckleface learns that everyone is different – and that's what makes everyone special.

Youth & Little Ones Workshop | Disney’s The Jungle Book Kids
The jungle is jumpin' with a jazzy beat in Disney's The Jungle Book KIDS. Specially adapted from the classic Disney animated film, Disney's The Jungle Book KIDS features a host of colorful characters and your favorite songs from the movie.
Banished by the ferocious tiger, Shere Khan, a human boy named Mowgli and his panther friend, Bagheera, are on the run in the deepest parts of the jungle. On their journey, the two meet a sinister snake named Kaa, a herd of elephants and a giant bear named Baloo, who teaches them the swingin' musical rhythms of the jungle. After surviving a dangerous encounter with a band of monkeys led by King Louie, Mowgli and Bagheera are forced to run for their lives. When Shere Khan returns, our heroes must rally their fellow animals into battle and restore peace throughout the jungle.

RTAA Presents | The Musical Adventures of Flat Stanley
The beloved children's book, written by Jeff Brown in 1964, has become a literary and pop cultural phenomenon, delighting readers and travelers all around the world. And now, Timothy Allen McDonald, the writer behind Willy Wonka and James and the Giant Peach, has taken everyone's favorite two-dimensional hero and given him a new life in The Musical Adventures of Flat Stanley.
Stanley Lambchop is your ordinary, everyday, run-of-the-mill, ten-year-old: normal mom and dad, normal little brother, normal life. That's just the problem... for Stanley, life is too normal. He wants to travel the world, do something amazing, something no one's ever seen before. Careful what you wish for, Stanley! One night, the bulletin board on the wall above Stanley's bed comes loose and falls – right on top of Stanley! The next morning, Stanley Lambchop wakes up flat. Not just a little flat... really, REALLY flat! In a whirlwind musical travelogue, Stanley – the ultimate exchange student – scours the globe for a solution to his unusual problem. He's stamped, posted and cancelled from Hollywood and France to Honolulu and beyond. The Musical Adventures of Flat Stanley is filled with infectious songs and non-stop adventure, making this a perfect show to introduce young audiences to the magic of live theatre.

RTAA Presents | The 4th Annual Champagne Gala
Join us for an evening of music and fun to raise money for the theatre! The cost of your ticket goes directly to the theatre to help fund our many programs that benefit the youth and adults of Placer County.
Your ticket includes a glass of champagne (or sparkling cider) and our dessert buffet. Additional beverages can be purchased at our no-host bar.Doors will open at 6:30pm so you can take your time and enjoy the champagne and sweets! The performance will start at 7:30pm sharp.Audience members are encouraged to dress up and come enjoy a beautiful night at the theatre.
Directed and choreographed by Jerald Bolden with musical direction by Jennifer Vaughn, we're looking forward to another night of inspiring music to celebrate all that Broadway is.

Youth & Little Ones Workshop | Angels, Apprentices, and Other Disasters
In the spirit of "It's a Wonderful Life" and in a touching, outside yourself way, we learn that everyone plays a vital part in the world and would be missed had they not been born. You will meet some really green angels, a band of overly patient winged angels and the people (past, present and future) in Miss Lala's life making for an inspiring and hilarious adventure!

RTAA Presents | Seussical the Musical
Now one of the most performed shows in America, Seussical is a fantastical, magical, musical extravaganza! Tony winners, Lynn Ahrens and Stephen Flaherty (Lucky Stiff, My Favorite Year, Once on This Island, Ragtime), have lovingly brought to life all of our favorite Dr. Seuss characters, including Horton the Elephant, The Cat in the Hat, Gertrude McFuzz, lazy Mayzie and a little boy with a big imagination – Jojo. The colorful characters transport us from the Jungle of Nool to the Circus McGurkus to the invisible world of the Whos.
The Cat in the Hat tells the story of Horton, an elephant who discovers a speck of dust that contains the Whos, including Jojo, a Who child sent off to military school for thinking too many "thinks." Horton faces a double challenge: not only must he protect the Whos from a world of naysayers and dangers, but he must guard an abandoned egg, left in his care by the irresponsible Mayzie La Bird. Although Horton faces ridicule, danger, kidnapping and a trial, the intrepid Gertrude McFuzz never loses faith in him. Ultimately, the powers of friendship, loyalty, family and community are challenged and emerge triumphant. Seussical is fun for the whole family!

The villainous Salty Sam and his six siblings sweep out and surround Sweet Hannah Sue and her six Sven sisters. Gasp! The seven Svens are in turn rescued by Jim Dandy and his band of merry Mounties, thus saving the town of Savannah from certain sourness. Yay! Edge of the chair suspense and lots of laughs in this melodrama ensue while the lost and wandering Pirates, the French lumberjacks, and the rusty dusty cow people try to help Hannah save her sweet milk cows.

Youth & Little Ones Workshop | Let Them Eat Kelp!
A slapstick musical in which the future world has flooded and only three countries are left. Timbuckone, Timbucktu and (what else) Timbuckthree. The selfish Queen of Timbuckthree and her evil advisors control all the food and between the Timbuckians and the Keepers of the Kelp a new system is developed that deposes the Queen and feeds the hungry.

Sweeney Todd has become a bloody, worldwide success since being awarded eight Tony Awards (including Best Musical), for its Broadway premiere and has now been adapted for high school performers in Sweeney Todd School Edition. Stephen Sondheim's and Hugh Wheeler's (A Little Night Music, Pacific Overtures) tasty, thrilling, theatrical treat has simultaneously shocked, awed and delighted audiences across the world.
An infamous tale, Sweeney Todd, an unjustly exiled barber, returns to nineteenth-century London, seeking vengeance against the lecherous judge who framed him and ravaged his young wife. The road to revenge leads Todd to Mrs. Lovett, a resourceful proprietress of a failing pie shop, above which he opens a new barber practice. Mrs. Lovett's luck sharply shifts when Todd's thirst for blood inspires the integration of an ingredient into her meat pies that has the people of London lining up... and the carnage has only just begun!
This special School Edition has been masterfully adapted, working directly with Mr. Sondheim to retain the dark wit and grand scope of the original work, with a few lyric and key changes to facilitate high school productions. At the show's core is a challenging score of epic proportion with two tasty tour-de-force roles in Sweeney and his comic female accomplice, Mrs. Lovett.

Summer Camp | Anything Goes Inc.
Set in the iconic 30 Rock Plaza, our summer campers are taping the premiere of a brand new throwback to the 90’s sitcom, “Anything Goes Inc.” Complete with executives who speak in abbreviations, Hippies, Corporate Spies and a hard to please list of clients. Think Mad Men (but family friendly!) set in those wonderful yuppie filled 1990’s, and... with music!

Summer Camp | Lost in Broadway
Summer campers sing, dance, and act while portraying RTAA staff, volunteers and instructors as well as Disney characters in this crazy mix of Annie, Shakespeare, and Looney Tunes (that’s the RTAA staff part ha ha) in one of our favorite of the “Lost in” summer camp scripts.

Why do we leave a “ghostlight” on all night at the theatre? What would the stars of Broadway past have to share with a group of reluctant field trippers? From old Broadway to today’s hits and everywhere in between..you’ll be surprised at what they have in common.

Once Upon A Mattress: Youth Edition is a one-hour adaptation of the beloved musical, designed for young performers.
Many moons ago in a far-off place, Queen Aggravain decreed no couples could marry until her son, Prince Dauntless, found a bride. Princesses came from far and wide to win the hand of the prince, but none could pass the impossible tests given to them by the Queen. That is, until the “shy” swamp princess, Winnifred the Woebegone, showed up. Would she be able to pass the Sensitivity Test, marry her prince and help Lady Larkin and Sir Harry to the altar? Carried on a wave of wonderful songs, by turns hilarious and raucous, romantic and melodic, this rollicking spin on the classic tale The Princess and the Pea provides some side-splitting shenanigans. After all, a princess is a delicate thing.

Whatever you do, don't let the Pigeon star in his own musical production! With a script written by Mo Willems, the creator of the #1 New York Times best-selling, Caldecott Honor award-winning "Pigeon" picture books, and featuring music by Deborah Wicks La Puma (Elephant & Piggie's We Are in a Play!), Don't Let the Pigeon Drive the Bus! The Musical! is even more fun than staying up late and having a hot dog party!
It's not easy being the Pigeon-you never get to do ANYTHING! But when the Bus Driver has a crisis that threatens to make her passengers (gasp!) late, maybe that wily bird CAN do something.
Featuring an innovative mix of songs, and feathers, Don't Let the Pigeon Drive the Bus! The Musical! is sure to get everyone's wings flapping.

Moana JR. features all the beloved songs from the film, written by Tony®, GRAMMY, Emmy, and Pulitzer Prize-winning composer Lin-Manuel Miranda, Opetaia Foa’i, and Mark Mancina, including “How Far I’ll Go,” “Shiny,” and “You’re Welcome.”
This thrilling and heartwarming coming-of-age story follows the strong-willed Moana as she sets sail across the Pacific to save her village and discover the truth about her heritage. Moana and the legendary demigod Maui embark on an epic journey of self-discovery and camaraderie as both learn to harness the power that lies within. The timeless tale, in which young Dorothy Gale travels from Kansas over the rainbow to the magical Land of Oz, continues to thrill audiences worldwide.

It's moving day for Alexander's family, but has he started packing? Alexander definitely does NOT want to move a thousand miles away! Alexander is not going to leave his best friend Paul. Or Rachel, the best babysitter in the world. Or the Baldwins, who have a terrific dog named Swoozie. Or Mr. and Mrs. Oberdorfer, who always give great treats on Halloween. Who cares if his father has a new job a thousand miles away? Alexander is not -- Do you hear him? He Means it! -- going to move.
Alexander's back, facing another of childhood's trials and tribulations with Judith Viorst's trademark humor and keen sense of what's important to kids. In this "moving" musical, home is where your family is.

Youth & Little Ones Workshop | The Saga of Sweet Hannah Sue or Is All That Is Swedish Sweet?
This saga finds us in the Svilton of Sweden with Hannah’s Mother and Father who have been entrusted with a special ice cream recipe. But the nasty Son of Sam and his six sons attempt to thwart the effort of a truly international cast in winning the ice cream cookoff grand prize cruise. Your actors will enjoy the many roles available between the Italian Lucia family, the French/Canadian Lumberjacks, the shouting Childs family of England and the food fight that ensues.

With holiday favorites like "Santa Baby", "December the 25th" and "How does Santa Fit Inside The Chimney" (What? You've not heard that one?) you'll be delighted by the spirit of the season.

When Ren and his mother move from Chicago to a small farming town, he is prepared for the inevitable adjustment period at his new high school. In the heart of Paris, a kind and eccentric millionairess wills her entire estate to Duchess, her high-society cat, and her three little kittens. Laughs and adventure ensue as the greedy, bumbling butler pulls off the ultimate catnap caper. Now it's up to the rough-and-tumble alley cat, Thomas O'Malley, and his band of swingin' jazz cats to save the day.

From musical theatre greats, Stephen Schwartz and John Caird, comes a joyous and inspirational musical about parents, children and faith... not to mention centuries of unresolved family business! An expansive and ambitious musical, the original production used a cast of sixty.
Adam, Eve, Noah and the "Father" who created them deal with the headstrong, cataclysmic actions of their respective children. The show ultimately delivers a bittersweet, but inspiring message: that "the hardest part of love... is letting go."
